Es war das Konzert der Superlative. Die erfolgreichste Gruppe der letzten Jahre trat im gigantischen Dodgers Stadium von Los Angeles auf 56 000 Leute hatten die Bee Gees in die Baseball-Arena gelockt. Es war der großte Auftritt der Gibb-Brüder auf ihrer derzeitigen US-Tournee.
Um 20 Uhr sollte die Show beginnen. Doch schon im Morgengrauen sammelten sich die ersten Fans vor den Toren des Stadions. Bis Mittag drangelten sich dort Tausende, so daß die Tore schon um 14 Uhr geöffnet werden mußten. Die Fans strömten in die Arena und veranstalteten ein wahres Wettrennen, um einen Platz möglichst nahe an der Bühne zu ergattern.
Kurznach 19 Uhr nahmen Barbra Streisand und Olivia Newton-John in der Ehrenloge Platz. Dann startete die Show. Die schwarze Gruppe Sweet Inspirations, die oft mit Elvis auf Tournee war, hatte die schwere Aufgabe, das Publikum anzuheizen. Doch sie erntete nur höflichen Beifall, denn alles fieberte dem Auftritt der Bee Gees entgegen.
Um 20.45 Uhr war es endlich soweit. Barry, Robin und Maurice, alle drei in weißen Hosen und silbernen Jacken, starteten ihre Show mit einem Knall-Effekt: Tragedy donnerte als erster Song durch das riesige Rund, grelle Lichtblitze explodierten. Sofort waren alle 56 000 Zuschauer total aus dem Häuschen.
Ingesamt brachten die Bee Gees 16 ihrer Hits, die irgendwann einmal die Charts angeführt haben. Hohepunkt des Abends waren naturlich die neueren Songs wie Too Much Heaven un die Erfolgs-Nummern aus dem Film saturday Night Fever. Doch auch das lange Medley ihrer Oldies wie Massachusetts, I Started A Joke, Holiday und I Can't See Nobody wurden begeistert gefeiert. Hier stand Robins Gesang im Vordergrund, wahrend fast alle Hits der letzten drei Jahre auf Barrys hoher Stimme aufgebaut sind.
Eine Überraschung erwartete die Fans am Ende der Show. bei der Zugabe You Should Be dancing kam plötzlich Andy, der vierte und jüngste Gibb-Bruder, auf die Bühne und sang mit.
Doch das Tollste erlebte das Publikum bei dem Konzert in der Sports Arena von Houston. Als nach einem sechsminutigen Beifallsorkan die Bee Gees zur Zugabe wieder auf der BÜhne erschienen, sprang bei den ersten Tonen von You Should Be Dancing ein anderer Ehrengast auf die Bühne: John Travolta, der gerade in Houston seinen neuen Film Urban Cowboy dreht, wirbelte mit seinen berühmten Tanzschritten aus Saturday Night Fever über die Bühne. Da war die Begeisterung der Zuhörer natürlich nicht mehr zu bremsen.
Diese Bee Gees Tour ist wirklich eine Tournee der Superlative. Wenn sie am 6 Oktober nach über 50 Konzerten zu Ende geht, werden mehrere Millionen Amerikaner sie Super-Show der drei Gibb-Brüder gesehen haben.

It was the concert of the superlative. The most successful group of the last years stepped in the gigantic Dodgers Stadium of Los Angeles before 56,000 people, who were attracted by the Bee Gees into the baseball arena. It was the biggest appearance of the Gibb brothers in their present US tour.
The show was due at 20:00. But in the morning the first fans started to gather before the gates of the stadium. At noon thousands were there, and the gates had to be opened at 14. The fans flowed into the arena and raced to get as close as possible to the stage.
Shortly after 19:00 Barbra Streisand and Olivia Newton John got into the place. Then the show started. The Sweet Inspirations, which often toured with Elvis, had the heavy task of heating the public up. But they harvested only polite applause, because temperature would only go up with the appearance of the Bee Gees. At 20.45 Barry, Robin and Maurice, all three in white trousers and silver jackets, started their show with a bang effect: Tragedy thundered as sharp flashes exploded.
The Bee Gees sang 16 of their chart-topping hits. The highlight of the evening were the new songs such as Too Much Heaven and the hits from the film Saturday Night Fever. But also the long Medley of their oldies such as Massachusetts, I Started A Joke, Holiday and I Can't lake Nobody was enthusiastically celebrated. Here Robin's singing stood in the foreground, then it was Barry's turn to sing lead on nearly all hits of the last three years.
There was a big surprise at the end of the show. The notes of You Should Be Dancing started to play and Andy, the fourth and youngest Gibb brother, joined his brothers on stage and sang with them.
But the craziest experienced for the public came in the concert held at the Sport Arena of Houston. This time the guest on stage during You Should Be dancing was John Travolta, who was presenting Urban Cowboy in Houston. He whirled on the stage with his famous dance steps from Saturday Night Fever. The audience reacted enthusiastically.
This Bee Gees route is really a tour of the superlative. When it ends on 6 October after over 50 concerts, several million Americans will have seen the super show of the three Gibb brothers.
