I don't live in the negative; I don't think negative. I don't pursue anything that is negative. I don't even ask questions that are negative. I just go for what I enjoy." [Maurice Gibb, 2001]

:: "Park Honor set for late Bee Gee"

Miami Herald: "The city of Miami Beach has announced plans to honor the late Maurice Gibb, one-third of the Bee Gees, with an official dedication this weekend of a park named after him.
"City officials and members of the Gibb family will be on hand for the ceremony, taking place at 4 p.m. Sunday at Maurice Gibb Park, 18th Street and Purdy Avenue.
"The ceremony is open to the public and is billed in a city press release as 'an intimate celebration of his life.'
"The park, formerly known as Island View Park, is just around the corner from Middle Ear Studios, where the Bee Gees frequently recorded and mixed their albums.
"Gibb, a longtime Beach resident, often visited the park, even when he and his brothers were not recording.
"''He used to go there almost every day at lunchtime to feed the sea gulls,'' Bob Koske, a Gibb-family friend who pushed for the memorial, told The Miami Herald in 2003. 'He would sit there, look at the water. Like anybody [who] has a little meditation spot.'
"Gibb died in January 2003 after emergency surgery for a blocked intestine. He was 53.
"After his death, his family and the city worked to honor his memory at the park site. The new name was approved by voters in 2004, and the $75,000 renovation has included a new sign at the corner and a special mosaic of imported glass tiles.
"According to the city, the Gibb family has asked that flowers and other gifts not be taken to the park, but rather that fans and friends who wish to make a gesture of remembrance donate to the Gibb Family Foundation.

No good year for Bee Gee houses:
«Several people are helping police with their inquiries after an incident at Bee Gee Robin Gibb’s Peel home yesterday (June 5).
An intruder broke into the house at 1am, hours after Robin had played at the Peel Bay Festival.
The man was one of several people who drove into the grounds through a deactivated security gate.
He climbed inside through a window and began shouting. He was asked to leave and the police were called.
Although Robin’s family were inside, the Bee Gee had already left the Island to go to a concert in Germany.
The man who broke in shouted that he had been sent by 'Suggs' before running away and leaving with the rest of the group.
Robin’s family, who were in the house at the time, are said to be shocked by the incident and police are now investigating.
Several people have been arrested although no charges have been announced by officers yet.»

:: "Bee Gee's boss flees inferno"

Daily Mail:
"No one has been watching the Californian firestorms, in which hundreds of homes have been destroyed, with more sympathy than music mogul Robert Stigwood.
"For the former manager of the Bee Gees and mentor to Lord Lloyd-Webber and Sir Tim Rice has, I can disclose, just had an astonishing escape from a raging inferno that tore through his seven-bedroom Ascot mansion.
"During the terrifying ordeal, the 73-year-old Australian-born tycoon narrowly missed being hit by a bolt of electricity which shot out of a fuse box.
"Fortunately, Stigwood and his beloved dogs, golden retriever Marmaduke and mongrel Milly, were saved by the timely intervention of his butler Khalid.
The eagle-eyed servant had raised the alarm after spotting smoke billowing from the fuse box shortly before it caught fire.
"Now recovering at the nearby mansion of his Bee Gee friend Barry Gibb, Stigwood tells me: 'I couldn't believe what I was seeing. There were electrical bolts leaping from the fuse box to a metal sink many feet away.' "

:: Robin Gibb BBC Radio 2 Interview

Robin Gibb was featured on a pre-recorded interview on Steve Wright's radio show (BBC Radio 2, UK) on Wednesday 31st October 2007, promoting the "Bee Gees Greatest" reissue.
Robin said that "Warm Ride" had been left off the film soundtrack because it was "one song too many".
Robin sang a soul version excerpt of "Islands In The Stream". He also talked about the possibilty of new material with Barry being released in 2008 (though not necessarily under the "Bee Gees" name), and his hopes of doing another Christmas carols album with Barry.
The interviewer, Steve Wright, mentioned an unreleased demo called "Swans On The Canal", featuring the lyric "Could it be over before it's done?" which he thought may have been a Bee Gees composition, but Robin could not confirm this one way or the other.
Finally, Robin said that two American number ones (probably "Lonely Days" and "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart") were written in Addison Rd, Kensington, London. The show also included the songs "Fanny"; an abridged medley of "You Should Be Dancing /Love You Inside Out /Warm Ride /How Deep Is Your Love/ Stayin' Alive"; and "Night Fever".

:: Bee Gees 45 singles in the top 100 in Germany

The remaining brothers announced that there would be no more new material by the group after Maurice's death in January 2003. So to see a new Bee Gees track enter the survey requires some detailed look. At first it is obvious that Rhino is a dedicated re-issues label. And as I'm not aware of a new Bee Gees anthology coming soon or any 30th-anniversary specials next year, "If I Can't Have You" of course is the Gibbs-written 'Saturday Night Fever' song turned into a UK (#4) and US (#1) hit in 1978 by Yvonne Elliman. In the GSA territory it never was a hit for the brothers themselves. Only Kim Wilde took a remake to #51 in 1993 back when airplay was allowed into the compilation of the lower half. Now it becomes the brothers' 45th chart entry at #71 as it is remixed by the Disco Boys, 40 years after their debut in 1967, and it's the first song to make the top 100 since "This Is Where I Came In" peaked at #25 in the spring.

DRI: The annual Love and Hope Preview Party was held at the Diplomat Country Club on November 15. During the dinner program, Barry Gibb, who serves, along with his wife as the International Chairman, started off the evening’s charitable gifts with prize money from a recent celebrity phone-in contest on Virgin Radio’s The Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show. “Virgin Radio was looking for crazy people to call up and leave crazy messages.  I did, and I was one of the five finalists selected.  Then people were urged to vote for their favorite contestant.  I guess we know a lot of people because my phone call won,” Gibb explained. “The prize, which was 30,000 pounds, went to the winner’s favorite charity, and I am now proud to present this $60,000 to the Diabetes Research Institute.”  Virgin Radio is UK’s national pop and rock radio station.  In the contest, Who’s Calling Christian?, Gibb was up against Nobel Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rugby star Josh Lewsey, British musician and composer Simon May, and actors Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson.
Three of Barry's children also attended the party and became Young Society of Love and Hope Honorees: Therese & Ashley Gibb,  Stacy & Travis Gibb, and Michael Gibb and Jenna Morhaim (Ali Gibb and Stephen & Gloria Gibb were not present.) You can see a family photo at DRI.

Moonlight Publications in Australia have a new title on Spin Records. Spin played a significant role in promoting the Bee Gees in Australia, and helped the group achieve their international breakthrough. The book is called 'Spin Dried', and it's by Bill Casey who created the web-site on the St. Clair Recording Studio.
There is a lot of new information about the Bee Gees in the book; Casey explains why Spin disregarded the group’s previous poor sales and backed the Gibb brothers’ remarkable songwriting skills. It was a gamble that paid off handsomely for the label - and for the group. Recommended for Bee Gees fans everywhere!

Yesterday Barry Gibb chatted with fans. It was a live webcast. His son Ashley read him questions from fans and he answered them. He said all his kids except Steve (in LA) will be home for Xmas. When asked about releasing a Xmas album, he said that's not likely to happen since he'd rather work on new songs; he's still working on his new country album. He talked about travelling to New York City in January and about a commercial about children protection that will be aired soon. He also answered questions about Robert Stigwood, their travel back to England aboard the Fair Sky, and sang four songs on guitar: Silent night, a new one, To love somebody and Words. His daughter Ali joined the chat too.
